EFCC Invites Former Attorney General Abubakar Malami for Questioning

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The invitation was issued in a letter dated November 24, directing Malami to appear before the Commission on Friday, November 28, for an interview.

“The Commission is investigating a case which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,” the letter signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu, on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stated.

The meeting is scheduled to hold at the EFCC Headquarters, Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.

“In view of the above, you are requested to kindly attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head, Special Duty Committee-3. This request is made pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2024. Your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited,” the letter added.

The EFCC did not disclose the specific reason for summoning the former Attorney General.

Malami Responds

Abubakar Malami has acknowledged receipt of the EFCC’s invitation and pledged to honour it.

In a statement issued on Friday, he affirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with investigators, emphasising his commitment to transparency in public service.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

He added that accountability and transparency are values he has always upheld.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion. Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold,” he stated.

Malami served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
