2Face: Afrobeats Will Never Fade Away

Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face Idibia, has expressed strong confidence in the future of Afrobeats, dismissing fears that the genre could decline on the global stage.

Speaking during a recent interview on Wazobia FM in Lagos, the “African Queen” crooner argued that predictions suggesting Afrobeats might lose relevance are unfounded.

According to him, the continuous emergence of young talents in Nigeria guarantees the sustainability and growth of the genre, describing upcoming artists as the driving force behind Afrobeats’ global success.

“Afrobeats can never die. If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands,” he said.

The veteran singer also praised the creativity and style of the new generation of musicians, noting that their unique sounds are helping to keep the genre fresh and appealing to global audiences.

He cited a recent remake of his classic song If Love Is A Crime by a young artist named Fola as an example of how emerging talents are building on the legacy of established stars.

“Recently, one of the young artists, Fola, remade my song ‘If Love Is A Crime.’ I really loved it. Soft, smooth vocals. It is amazing. The present crops of artists have special flows. I love their styles,” he added.
