Ex-Gov Daniel’s Aide Dismisses Ogun APC Suspension Claim Made on Facebook

0

The team of the former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has dismissed claims of his suspension from the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the announcement made through a Facebook post as baseless and procedurally invalid.

Addressing journalists at the Asoludero Court in Sagamu on Tuesday, Senator Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide said it was neither ethical nor logical for a party official to announce the suspension of a serving senator and former governor on social media space.

Oliyide stressed that the power to issue such a suspension lies only with the state chairman or secretary of the party, neither of whom had issued any formal communication.

“It is improper to take a Facebook post seriously when there has been no official letter, no allegation, and no invitation to any disciplinary panel without verification from the authentic leadership of the party in the state or at the national level, such claims should be disregarded.”

He also faulted a statement allegedly released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Adeniran, which he described as an unsigned press release that sought to validate a non-existent suspension order.

“In the last few days, you must have heard rumours about the purported suspension of His Excellency, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel. This joke began in August 2025 with a Facebook post by someone who for the first time, introduced himself as the Director of Publicity of our great party, the APC, in Ogun State.

“What happened to the state chairman and secretary of the party? This cannot be taken seriously especially since there was no official correspondence, no accusation, no invitation to any panel, and no suspension letter.”

Oliyide described the incident as politically motivated, linking it to the race for the 2027 Ogun East Senatorial race.

“Let no one be deceived, this is all connected to the politics of 2027, Otunba Daniel has done nothing wrong to warrant any disciplinary action.”

He drew parallels with events preceding the 2019 general elections when then-Governor Ibikunle Amosun moved his followers from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) amid internal party disputes.

“Ahead of the 2019 elections, the APC in Ogun was deeply divided. Senator Amosun moved most members of the APC to the APM, at that time, Otunba Daniel, who was still in the PDP at the instance of the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu mobilised his supporters including traditional rulers and political stakeholders to support Prince Dapo Abiodun and the APC in Ogun State.”

He noted that Daniel’s endorsement and mobilisation efforts were instrumental to Abiodun’s narrow victory in 2019.

“Prince Dapo Abiodun himself visited Otunba Daniel at the Asoludero Court residence, pictures are everywhere, Daniel publicly endorsed him and mobilised massive support for his victory. Despite these efforts, the governor won by only 19,000 votes the lowest margin in Ogun’s history at that time.”

Oliyide further argued that the APC’s 2019 success in Ogun-East was largely due to Daniel’s influence, noting that the party lost in both Ogun Central and Ogun West senatorial districts.

“The APC’s victory came mainly from Ogun-East under Otunba Daniel’s coordination, while other districts went the other way,” he added.

The press conference was attended by several Ogun-East APC leaders, including Gen. Olumuyiwa Okunowo (rtd.), Akogun Kola Onadeko, Prof. Yemi Oke, Rt. Hon. Remmy Hassan, Aare Kolade Segun Okeowo, Dr. Niyi Osoba, Akogun Jamiu Alabi, Prince Akin Onalaja, Otunba Femi Davies, Hon. Opabiyi Samuel, Hon. Wale Adedayo, Engr. Aregbe Habeeb, Hon. Yekini Adesanya, Mrs. Josephine Makanjuola, Dr. Banky Osisanya, and Hon. Taiwo Soniyi, among others.

Nigerian President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has assured the technical contractor handling the Presidential Power Initiative (IPI), Siemens Energy, of the government’s full support towards improving the country’s electricity supply and enhancing the livelihoods of its citizens.

Speaking at a meeting held in the State House, with a delegation from the Siemens Energy, on Monday, President Tinubu, noted that the power sector remains central to stimulating the economy, particularly in the industrial, educational, and healthcare sectors.

The delegation was led by the Managing Director of Middle East and Africa, Dietmar Siersdorfer.

According to the President, he said that, the completion of the phased power project will give Nigeria a place of pride on the continent by harnessing the latent potential in human and material resources across various sectors.

“There is no industrial growth or economic development without power. I believe that power is the most significant discovery of humanity in the last 1,000 years.

“I appreciate the partnership on the initiative. The progress of the project to date is notable, and we can feel it. But it is not where we want it to be.

“We appreciate the support and commitment of the German government and Siemens. The investment you are making and your commitment align with the future of this country.

“Our education, our health care and our transportation all depend on energy and without power, it is an impossible objective. We are taking it very seriously,’’ he added.

The President also directed the expansion of some major transformer substations from two to three phases to boost the country’s power supply.

“We are all inspired and happy. This is what we want to achieve on the continent. We want everyone to see the glory of our economic recovery and banishment of poverty,’’ he said.

The President assured the delegation that the government will continue to provide the needed resources for the power project.

In his own remarks, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated that the power sector had achieved many critical milestones, including the decentralisation and liberalisation of the sector.

He noted that the President signed the Electricity Act 2023, and a National Integrated Electricity Policy was developed after 24 years, attracting more than $2 2billiopn of fresh investments.

Adelabu, also noted that the policy had resulted in the activation of fifteen state electricity markets.

“Since the signing of the Accelerated Agreement at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023, an event you personally attended alongside the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the PPI has recorded notable milestones across its implementation phases.

“Under the Pilot phase (Phase Zero), we have achieved significant infrastructure upgrades and capacity enhancements that are already impacting grid stability and reliability across the country.

“Siemens Energy has successfully delivered and commissioned 10 units of 132/33kV mobile substations, three units of 75/100MVA transformers, and seven units of 60/66MVA transformers across key load centres nationwide, which have added 984mv of transmission capacity to the grid,’’ the minister stated.

He, also informed the President that in December 2024, the Federal Executive Council approved the commencement of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for Phase One, Batch One of the PPI.

The minister stated that the scope encompasses the upgrade, installation, and commissioning of five key substations situated in Abeokuta, Offa, Ayede-Ibadan, Sokoto, and Onitsha.

“I am pleased to report that plans for civil works mobilisation across all five locations have been finalised, concurrent manufacturing of the required equipment is ongoing, and two of the five substations are targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

“As we consolidate the gains from the Pilot Phase and Phase One-First Batch, we are also preparing to advance to Phase One-Batch two, which has a scope for the construction of new substations and the upgrade of existing ones across key load centres nationwide. Collectively, Phase One -Batch Two of the PPI comprises a total of six (6) Brownfield and ten (10) Greenfield substations with a cumulative impact of 4,104MW”.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, stated that the completion of the PPI will enhance Nigeria’s ease of doing business, create more jobs for the youth, and reduce poverty.

The leader of the Siemens delegation, Siersdorfer, stated that two out of the five substations under construction are expected to be completed by December 2026.

He noted that a training centre was already under construction to ensure the training of local talents in electrical engineering, create more jobs, capture local content, and transfer technology.

“The PPI is not just a project but a platform for long-term development and prosperity,’’ he stated.

He informed the President that the PPI will transform Nigeria into a regional power hub, reflecting the depth of relations between Germany and Nigeria.

“Nigerian professionals will be engaged directly in the five project sites in Batch 1 for the site works, while thousands of jobs will be enabled in the local communities through purchased services, accommodation, and transportation, among others. These will further reflect the strength of our partnership and the viability of the roadmap we have built together,’’ Siersdorfer noted.

The German Ambassador’s representative, Johannes Lehne, assured President Tinubu of further support and collaboration with the German government.

Present at the meeting were, the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen.

FG Set to Unveil Two New Investment Funds for Nigerian Startups

The Federal Government, through its Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme, has announced plans to establish two additional funds in 2026 to support Nigeria’s technology and creative sectors. The initiative aims to boost investment in start-ups across the country.

The announcement followed the formal commencement of the iDICE programme’s first anchor investment through Ventures Platform, a pan-African seed-stage fund. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs the iDICE Steering Committee, described the move as a major milestone that would harness the innovative potential of Nigerian youth.

The new funding achieved a first-round close of $64 million following investor commitments last Thursday. Ventures Platform, which was appointed as the Fund Manager for the technology component of iDICE in August 2025, will manage the fund alongside other institutional investors such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Standard Bank of South Africa, and British International Investment (BII). The fund targets a final close of $75 million.

Shettima said the commencement of investment under the iDICE initiative represents a key step in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians and driving innovation in line with the Renewed Hope agenda.

The Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Dr. Olasupo Olusi, explained that the government’s investment in Ventures Platform’s Fund II was part of efforts to strengthen the technology and creative sectors. He added that the initiative would help create jobs, support entrepreneurs, and advance Nigeria’s economic transformation goals.

Ventures Platform’s Founding Partner, Kola Aina, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that the partnership would empower young innovators to turn their ideas into impactful solutions that contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The iDICE programme focuses on three key areas—skills and enterprise development, expanding access to finance, and creating a supportive environment through favourable policies and legislation.

As part of its 2026 plans, iDICE will introduce two new funding schemes: a creative sector fund to invest in start-ups within the entertainment and media industries, and a “fund of funds” designed to support smaller funds focused on technology and creative enterprises.

Launched in 2023, iDICE is a $617 million programme aimed at supporting Nigerians aged 15–35 with resources and training in the digital and creative economy. It is jointly financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the French Development Agency (AFD), with the BOI serving as co-investor and implementing agency.

Since its establishment in 2016, Ventures Platform has invested in over 90 African start-ups, including Paystack, Piggyvest, Moniepoint, and LemFi.

One Year In Office: Tunde Diya Initiates Ogun’s First Truck Stop

…commends Gov. Abiodun, Party Chieftains for Their Support

It was a memorable day in Odogbolu, Ogun State, as the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Dr. Babatunde Diya initiated the establishment of the first truck stop in Ogun State, a strategic investment designed to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) and drive sustainable development across the state.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on Monday, marked Diya’s first anniversary in office and attracted dignitaries, royal fathers, and political leaders from across the state.

The TruckStop Initiative is envisioned as a safe and organized parking facility for heavy-duty vehicles, aimed at reducing accidents along expressways, improving environmental safety, and creating employment opportunities; particularly for youths in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

In his address, Hon. Dr. Babatunde Diya described the initiative as the foundation of a new economic dawn for Odogbolu and its environs, serving truck drivers along the Edo-Lagos corridor.

“As the Yoruba say, ‘Bi a kò bá gbin igi, a ò ní j’ododo rẹ,’ meaning if we don’t plant the tree, we cannot enjoy its shade. The council is planting a tree today that will provide shade for generations yet unborn,” he said.

Diya revealed that the N3.5billion Odogbolu Truck Stop Project represents a monumental stride toward modernizing local infrastructure and expanding the economy, adding that the ultramodern facility will feature parking lots, fuel stations, maintenance bays, hotels, restaurants, drivers’ lodges, and recreational spaces and is expected to create over 300 direct and indirect jobs.

“As we say in Yoruba, ‘Ise ni ogun ise,’ meaning hard work is the cure for poverty. This project will empower our youths, attract investors, and make Odogbolu a logistics and investment hub. Beyond that, it complements the emerging Gateway International Airport corridor, transforming our axis into a commercial and transport powerhouse in the Southwest.”

The chairman expressed deep appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his leadership and for giving him the opportunity to serve.

“Let me express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his steadfast support and visionary guidance. His commitment to developing Ogun State and Ijebuland continues to inspire us.

“I also appreciate my executive members, party chieftains, and councillors for their unwavering support throughout the past year. This journey of progress would not have been possible without you all.”

In the same vein, Mr. Oyeyemi Oke, Deputy CEO of TGroup and 1st TruckStops, emphasized the importance of infrastructure in driving trade and logistics.

“Trade cannot thrive without logistics, and logistics cannot thrive without infrastructure. The Odogbolu Truck Stop is designed to become the backbone of trade along the 49km Sagamu–Benin Expressway,” Oke noted.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to economic growth, job creation, and community development. Construction alone will create at least 300 direct jobs, while ongoing operations will sustain another 150.”

On her part, Ms. Oluwaseun Mamoye, Managing Director of TruckBus and Odogbolu TruckStops, described the project as a transformative investment for Ogun State.

“The Odogbolu Truck Stop is more than infrastructure; it represents a future where highways become arteries of growth rather than bottlenecks of inefficiency.

“Every truck that parks, every driver that rests, and every business that operates here contributes to a cycle of productivity and recurring revenue. With Nigeria’s road haulage industry valued in billions, the opportunity before us is immense.”

In his remarks, Hon. Olufemi Ogunbanwo, representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, commended the council for its foresight, describing the initiative as a legacy that would empower future generations.

Hon. Dennis Ogunnaike, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Technology Innovation, praised Diya for following the visionary footsteps of Governor Abiodun.

“His Excellency recently completed the Gateway International Airport, a generational investment. Hon. Diya’s Truck Stop initiative aligns perfectly with that vision, and I commend his bold leadership,” Ogunnaike said.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Hon. Olufemi Ogunbanwo, representatives of the Commissioner for Rural Development, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Odogbolu APC Chairman Akogun Muyiwa Idowu, several royal fathers, Oba Dr. Abdulmojeed Adetoye Alatise (Gbegande of Ososa Ijebu), Oba Musibau Oseni (Alakan of Ilakan-Ayepe), Oba Akalako of Afo-Ayepe, Oba Abdulsalam Kolawole (Jaun Medu Onigbile of Igbile Ijebu), and Oba-Elect Pero of Okun-Owa Ijebu, among others.
