Comrade Olanrewaju Re-Elected Ogun NUJ Chairman, Vows Reforms and an End to Godfatherism

Comrade Wale Olanrewaju has been returned as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, following a keenly awaited election that ended days of tension, delays and uncertainty within the union.

The election, which drew wide participation from journalists across the state, also reaffirmed the mandates of Comrade Abiodun Lawal as Vice Chairman, Comrade Bunmi Adigun as Secretary, and Comrade Toyin Oyelumade as Assistant Secretary. Fresh leadership emerged as well, with Comrade Olayinka Ezema and Comrade Lukman Adefeso Comrade Lukman Adefeso elected into new positions.

In a statement issued after the announcement of results, Secretary of the Council, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, described the outcome as a resounding victory for all members, noting that the overwhelming support for the Itesiwaju Campaign Team reflected journalists’ collective desire for stability, progress and accountability.

Adigun acknowledged the challenges that trailed the election process—ranging from administrative delays to heightened tension within the council—but commended members for remaining steadfast and committed to upholding democratic values. He also praised the Campaign Team’s Director General and supporters for their unwavering dedication and strategic coordination throughout the process.
