Falana Calls for Traditional Methods in Dispute Resolution

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights activist, Femi Falana, has urged governments at all levels to adopt traditional methods of resolving disputes as a way to enhance access to justice.

Falana made the call on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti.

He emphasized the need for reforms in customary courts and traditional rulers’ palaces, where members of the public can resolve their issues daily.

“Governments at all levels must reform customary courts and palaces of traditional rulers where the public can resolve their issues on a daily basis,” Falana said.

The legal icon expressed concern that access to justice in Nigeria is mostly limited to politicians, while ordinary citizens are often unable to afford court processes.

He, therefore, called for the promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms to provide a more inclusive and efficient justice system for all Nigerians.
