The Ijebu-Remo Progressive Youths Organisation (IREYIPO) has called for unity among elders championing the creation of a new state from Ogun State, emphasizing that a collective and unified approach is crucial for success.
Speaking at their inaugural general meeting on Sunday, March 2nd, at Home Base Hotel, Ijari, Ijebu-Ode, IREYIPO, led by its coordinator, Akogun Jamiu Olododo, brought together representatives from the six local government areas in Ijebuland to strategize on the way forward.
The group urged leaders across Ijebu and Remo, which make up Ogun East Senatorial District, to present a united front in the quest for state creation.
It is worth noting that the Remo Committee on State Creation, established by the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, recently submitted its report proposing ‘Remo-Ijebu State’ with Sagamu as the capital. However, the Ijebuland Committee, set up by the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Ogbagba II, has yet to submit its own findings.
Speaking at the event, IREYIPO Coordinator, Akogun Jamiu Olododo, underscored the importance of unity, stating, “Achieving state creation is impossible without consensus. The unity of our region is paramount. We must stand firm and support our leaders in this struggle. While our elders are making great efforts, it is essential for us all to speak with one voice to achieve our shared objective.”
He also commended the contributions of political representatives, including Senator Gbenga Daniel and members of the House of Representatives from Ogun East, acknowledging their efforts while stressing the need for more coordinated action at this crucial stage.
The youth forum firmly believes that a united approach is the key to realizing the vision of a new state. With both Ijebu and Remo stakeholders working together, the chances of achieving this goal will be significantly strengthened.
