ROYALTIES, DIGNITARIES PAY LAST RESPECT TO LIKEN OF IBEFUN
Ibefun town in Odogbolu Local Government Area was agog as dignitaries, royal fathers, politicians, and business moguls trooped in to pay their last respect to His Royal Highness, Oba Olatoye Adesina Adetoye, the Liken of Ibefun-Ijebu.
The Christian Wake Keep held on Thursday, 21st August, 2025, was followed by an Interdenominational Service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ibefun.
Among the dignitaries present were Hon. (Barr.) Femi Ogunbanwo, member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central; Hon. (Mrs) Atinuke Bello; Otunba Bankole Habeeb Olugbile; HRH Oba Abdulrazak Adenugba, the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye; and Otunba Abdulrasheed Oladimeji, the Otunba Atayese of Ibefun, among others.
Speaking with Ijebu Rewa, Otunba Abdulrasheed Oladimeji described the late monarch as “a meek and down-to-earth king who always wanted the best for the people of Ibefun.” He prayed for a kind-hearted successor to continue his legacy.
Prince (Dr.) Samuel Adetoye described his late father and king as “a man worthy of emulation, who meant well for everyone.”
In his tribute, Otunba Bankole Habeeb Olugbile expressed that Kabiyesi’s demise was “a colossal loss to him personally and to the entire Ibefun community.”
Also, Prince Akinola Adetoye reflected emotionally, saying his late father and king was “his strength, who pushed and encouraged him in all areas of life to become who he is today.”
Born in 1946 in Ibefun to Prince Yinusa Balogun Adetoye and Princess Modupe Adetoye (née Oduwole), Oba Olatoye Adesina Adetoye was installed as the Liken of Ibefun after his appointment was approved by Aremo Olusegun Osoba on July 15, 1992. He was crowned on Saturday, 19th December, 1992, after completing the traditional rites, and officially presented with the Staff of Office on Saturday, 16th January, 1993.
