The youths of Ijebuland, under the aegis of Ijebu Youths March for New State (IYMNS), have called on all Ijebus, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind the ongoing efforts led by the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba S.K. Adetona, along with other stakeholders advocating for the creation of Ijebu State.
The group held its first general gathering on Tuesday at the Ijebu-Ode Club arena, with full attendance from members and various coordinators representing the six local government areas of Ijebuland.
The convener, who also serves as the Coordinator-General, Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, affirmed in his address that the growing momentum of the Ijebu statehood initiative is a testament to its increasing support.

He emphasized that the relentless efforts of royal fathers, led by the Awujale, alongside Senator Gbenga Daniel representing Ogun East, should be recognized and appreciated by the youth, who are the future leaders of Ijebuland.
Akilo stressed that the current leaders are laying the foundation for a better future.
“We are determined to mobilize our youth and work collaboratively with our revered royal fathers. Our leadership structure will oversee the implementation of a comprehensive plan, including advocacy, campaigns, and public enlightenment efforts.
“He further noted that the initiative aligns with the ongoing push for Ijebu statehood, urging all stakeholders to support their leaders in achieving this historic goal.
In his remarks, Hon. Tolulope Olubiyi Oduyemi reiterated the importance of supporting the initiative, stating that the creation of Ijebu State is a collective responsibility.
“There is no gain without sacrifice, the creation of Ijebu State is a done deal for all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, and it is imperative for everyone to support this cause.
“According to him, Ijebu remains the only province in Nigeria yet to attain state status, making this effort a pivotal moment in its history”, – Olubiyi said.
On his part, the Director of Media and Communications, Comrade ‘Seun Oduneye, highlighted the significance of collective participation and grassroots mobilization in the upcoming March for the New State initiative.
Similarly, Dr. Kubura Bakre, the Director of Organisation, urged grassroots leaders to fully commit to the project, emphasizing its potential to bring the long awaited statehood to reality.
Following the discussions, the group announced the appointment of coordinators and assigned them various responsibilities, focusing on mobilizing youths across Ijebuland in preparation for the forthcoming Youth March exercise.
