NFF slams Benin Rep FA over wrong anthem

0

In the wake of Nigeria’s 2-1 loss against the Benin Republic in their fourth game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation has lashed out at the Beninoise Football Federation for mixing up Nigeria’s national anthem before the kick-off of the match, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Before the Eagles were shocked by their neighbours, the team had sparked reactions across Nigeria as the players sang along to the old national anthem, which rang around the Felix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Benin Republic’s adopted home ground.

The new anthem was played during Nigeria’s previous game of the qualifying series against South Africa in Uyo last Friday.

According to a statement released by NFF’s Director of Media and Communications, Ademola Olajire, after the game, the NFF handed a recording of the new national anthem of Nigeria to the Benin FA authorities at the Match Coordination Meeting in Abidjan on Sunday evening.

“We gave them the recording of our new national anthem, only for them to play the wrong one at the beginning of the match. We protested strongly and insisted that the Super Eagles would not start the second half until the new national anthem of Nigeria was played,” Head of International Competitions, Dayo Enebi Achor said via the statement.

The statement added that the Benin FA authorities eventually played the new Nigerian national anthem before the commencement of the second half of the match.

“With that kind of confusion home and abroad, how can they concentrate and win,” a fan Nnamdi Daniel wrote on X.

Social media influencer, Daniel Regha, said, “Nigeria has more national anthem than goals per match, thank you Finidi George, but the NFF also shares in the blame. Up Super Eagles.”

Another fan, David Pine, stated, “As image makers of the country, this is totally wrong and unacceptable.”

President Bola Tinubu had signed the National Anthem Bill 2024, reinstating the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” into law, shifting from the usual “Arise, O Compatriots.”

The “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” anthem was used from 1960, when Nigeria gained independence until it was replaced by “Arise, O Compatriots” in 1978.

Police hunt welding apprentice for allegedly stealing N300,000 gates

0

The Ogun State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a yet-to-be-identified welding apprentice, who was accused of stealing gates valued at about N300,000 at his trainer’s shop at Ita-Sanni, Ogijo, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

It was said that the suspect’s welding trainer, Moshood Odetunde, got to his shop and found out that two uncompleted iron gates worth N300,000, were stolen.

Odetunde reported the incident to the Ogijo Police Division, whose officers swung into action and worked with credible information provided, which led to the arrest of a suspect, Jemilu Monso.

Monso was arrested at a motor park, where he was caught loading a truck with the stolen doors, believing that he was making an effort to convey them to the northern part of the country.

Upon interrogation, he exonerated himself by disclosing that he purchased the items from a man identified as Suleiman Ibrahim. The police operatives also arrested the accused, who said the stolen items were sold to him by one of the welder’s apprentices.

Local refining may crash petrol price to N300/litre – Modular refineries

0

The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, should drop to about N300/litre upon the commencement of massive production by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other indigenous producers, operators of modular refineries stated on Sunday.

However, they pointed out that this would be achieve when the government ensures the provision of adequate crude oil to local refiners, stressing that refineries abroad were ripping off Nigeria.

Speaking under the aegis of the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria, they explained that what happened to the cost of diesel after Dangote started producing it, would happen to petrol price once it is being produced massively in Nigeria.

CORAN is a registered association of modular and conventional refinery companies in Nigeria.

“A lot of companies today benefit from the importation of petroleum products at the expense of Nigerians,” the Publicity Secretary, CORAN, Eche Idoko, stated.

He told our correspondent that “if we begin to produce PMS today in large volumes, provided there is adequate crude oil supply, I can assure that we should be able to buy PMS at N300/litre as the pump price.

“Why make Nigerians buy it at almost N700/litre when you know that if you allow refineries work the price will come down? Is it because you want to satisfy the global refiners abroad that are making so much from us?”

Finidi needs a win against South African teams

0

It’s the third game in the series for Nigeria and it will be followed by another tricky test against Benin Republic in Ivory Coast, the Squirrels adopted home ground on Monday.

With only two points from their first two matches, the Super Eagles are third in the Group behind South Africa and Rwanda, meaning Finidi’s task couldn’t have come harder, as he tries to tutor the Eagles back on track. Moreover, the Super Eagles failed to reach the last edition of the World Cup in Qatar.

The 53-year-old seems to know that nothing less than victory is acceptable in the two games, regardless of the fact that South Africa have only beaten the Eagles once in a competitive game.

“We have trained well, the players understand the task. I trust my players and their quality. It’s a must win game,” Finidi during the pre-match interview.

“The AFCON win against South Africa is gone, this is a new game. We have our plans.”

“I don’t have anything to prove. I am relaxed, it is football. I want to win, I understand the tasks. I am not scared, I played at the highest and we are going for a win.”

Finidi went on to make 62 appearances for Nigeria scoring two goals while winning the 1994 AFCON as well. Before the game against South Africa and Benin, the current crop of players in the national team have, no doubt, also tested the resolve of the ex-international with eight of them arriving camp well beyond schedule for the clashes.

The ex-international had just one session with the complete 23-man squad on Thursday, their last session before the game but he insists the team’s plans aren’t disrupted.

Nigeria, as a country, doesn’t need prayer.

Many Nigerians often advocate prayers for Nigeria, which I used to oppose, that Nigeria as a country does not need prayers but for it’s citizens to doing good.

God had from the past answered the prayers of Nigeria (lati ìwáṣẹ̀). To explain this, Nigeria and Nigerians did not raise a battle or drop one blood for her Independence.
Is that not an answered prayer?
Nigeria was bequeathed with self rule and Republic by the Colonial masters without interference, another answered prayer.
Nigeria went into three years selfish tribal war which ended with “No victory, No vanquished” another answered prayer.

Looking into the length and breadth of the country, there are unquantified mineral resources for Nigeria to play with and increase the gifts of Almighty God to increase economically without asking and begin. Are these not answered prayers?
Nigeria is endowed with educational knowledge which if adequately utilised is an answered prayer.

Nigeria unlike the Babel which suffered from language separation, have beneficial advantages of languages unity in diversity and forging ahead as an entity. Another answered prayer.

What is now wrong with Nigeria that people continue to advocate prayers for Nigeria?

Privately and personally, I advocate extensive curses for those who are not up to 10% of the population of the country who are troubling God on our behalf which is making people to think God had not answered Nigeria prayers. Therefore asking prayers on Nigeria.

God having answered Nigeria prayers and given her all the needs and wants has gone to listen to those whose countries are worst off, without the necessities of life through no fault of theirs.

Prayers meant to be directed to Nigeria should be to oneself; ask God for whatever He should do for you and attendant curses to those who would not let you enjoy the goodies of deposits by God in Nigeria not to Nigeria whose prayers had been answered from creation.

The curses are not specifically on the leaders, rulers or those on helms of affairs, but those who does not want it well with you in the country. You do not need to mention names because when these sets of people hear, they know themselves and will restitute or get killed, erased depending on the demand from God.

After awhile, you will see God looking back to hear the supplications and answer, then Nigeria and Nigerians will start to enjoy good things of life.

Curses are not only by words of mouth, protest and otherwise but can be traditional institution methods, whatever you have to invoke God’s wrath and Psalms.

NIGERIA IN BLACKOUT AS UNION SHUT DOWN NATIONAL GRID

0

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced the shutdown of national grid by the Labour Union resulting in black out  nationwide.

The national grid shut down occured at about 2.19am this morning, 3rd June 2024.

“At about 1:15am this morning, the Benin Transmission Operator under the Independent System Operations unit of TCN reported that all operators were driven away from the control room and that staff that resisted were beaten while some were wounded in the course of forcing them out of the control room and without any form of control or supervision, the Benin Area Control Center was brought to zero.

Other transmission substations that were shut down by the Labour Union include the Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba and Osogbo Transmission Substations. Some transmission lines were equally opened due to the ongoing activities of the labour union.

“On the power generating side, power generating units from different generating stations were forced to shut down some units of their generating plants, the Jebba Generating Station was forced to shut down one of its generating units while three others in the same substation subsequently shut down on very high frequency. The sudden forced load cuts led to high frequency and system instability, which eventually shut down the national grid at 2:19am.

“At about 3.23am, however, TCN commenced grid recovery, using the Shiroro Substation to attempt to feed the transmission lines supplying bulk electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation. The situation is such that the labour Union is still obstructing grid recovery nationwide.

We will continue to make efforts to recover and stabilize the grid to enable the restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centers nationwide”
